State Commemoration to mark the 101st Anniversary of the 1916 Rising

A Ceremony to mark the 101st Anniversary of the 1916 Easter Rising took place outside the GPO, O’Connell Street today. The Ceremony was led by President Michael D. Higgins, Taoiseach Enda Kenny and the Minister with responsibility for Defence, Paul Kehoe.

Defence Forces Personnel, including a brass band, a pipe band and representatives of the Army, the Air Corps and the Naval Service took part in the Ceremony, which concluded with an Air Corps fly past.

At noon the National Flag was lowered and the 1916 Proclamation was read by Captain Michael Barry.

The President then laid a wreath to commemorate those who died in 1916.
