Taoiseach Enda Kenny today met with Pope Francis at a private audience in Rome.

The Taoiseach and the Pope discussed the historic bond between Ireland and the Holy See, as well as current affairs in Europe, in particular the refugee crisis, youth unemployment and political and institutional challenges.

The Taoiseach also met with Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin and Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, the Holy See secretary for Relations with States.

Following the meeting, the Taoiseach confirmed that Pope Francis will visit Ireland in 2018 for the World Meeting of the Family.
