Taoiseach announces 150 new jobs for Cork

Mater Private Cork plans to more than double its workforce as part of its €70m investment

Taoiseach Enda Kenny today announced the creation of 150 new jobs at the Mater Private Cork, as it sets about growing its workforce from 100 to 250 over the next two years. The vast majority of the new jobs are post-graduate posts and include doctors, nurses and allied health professionals.

The announcement comes as part of a €70 million investment that has been made in the 75 bed hospital which is located at City Gate, Mahon.

Speaking at the announcement Taoiseach Enda Kenny said: “This is a significant announcement for the people of Cork and the surrounding region. Many of the new positions are highly skilled medical roles, which will be of interest to consultant and other healthcare professionals from the Munster region."

Anna Fitzgerald, Chief Executive, Mater Private Cork said: “Since opening in 2013, our objective has been to become the leading private hospital in Munster. Our commitment today, to further increase our workforce by 150, is a further manifestation of this objective.

Paul Hegarty, Consultant in Urologic Oncology and Andrology and Head of the Urology Service at Mater Private in Cork said: “. As we extend and enhance our service here in Mater Private Cork, we have the scope and scale to attract other surgeons/consultant doctors home to Cork to provide the people of Munster with world-class medical care.”
