The Taoiseach will travel to London this morning to meet with the new British Prime Minister Theresa May at No 10 Downing Street.

This meeting provides an opportunity for the Taoiseach and the Prime Minister to meet formally for the first time and exchange views on a wide range of issues of mutual interest and concern, especially in light of the recent UK referendum decision to leave the EU.

They will also discuss the current situation in Northern Ireland and the UK/Ireland Joint Work Programme.

Speaking in advance of the meeting the Taoiseach said:

I look forward to meeting with Prime Minister May. This meeting will provide an opportunity for us to have a strategic and constructive discussion on the impact of the referendum and how we are going to work together to protect the interests of all our citizens on these islands.
