Communications Minister Pat Rabbitte today announced that the CEO of Aer Lingus, Christoph Mueller, had agreed to accept the role of Chairman of An Post. Minister Rabbitte said:

The Government this morning agreed to appoint Mr Mueller to chair this important state company at a critical time in the company’s future. An Post has a great brand and an important nation-wide network. It provides very important services to communities throughout Ireland. However, in the internet era, the company also faces significant challenges. The company will benefit from the strategic leadership approach that Christoph Mueller has brought to Aer Lingus. I am also sure that Christoph, who played a leadership role in Deutsche Post and DHL before joining Aer Lingus, will bring a valuable international perspective to the Board of An Post.
