National Funding to Promote the Integration of Immigrants announced by Minister Stanton

€1.8 million approx. allocated to 14 projects across the country

Grants totalling €1.8 million to help the integration of immigrants were announced today by Mr. David Stanton, T.D., Minister of State at the Department of Justice and Equality with responsibility for Equality, Immigration and Integration.

A total of 14 projects will be delivered over the next three years in a number of locations across the country by public bodies and NGOs who were successful following an open call for applications.

Examples of the integration projects selected for funding include:

· A nationwide project to support English language acquisition.

· An employment and integration project in Dublin for vulnerable and
socially-excluded immigrants, which will increase the employability
of members of the target group.

· A Cork-based project providing practical support and advice to
immigrants.

· A nationwide anti-racism project involving children and young people.

Announcing the funding, the Minister said:

“Fourteen projects will be funded across the country to help support the integration of our immigrants. This complements the €4.5 million under the EU Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund and the €3.3 million under the ESF Employability of Migrants Measure, both of which I announced in January last, and the €0.5 million Communities Integration Fund which I initiated in February and the applications under which are at present being assessed.

I am grateful to all applicants under the call for applications for national funding, 73 in number, who have been informed of the outcome of their applications. I send my good wishes to the selected projects wish them every success in their work.”
