Statement by Ministers on agreement in principle for a revised salary scale for full-time fire-fighters in local authority fire services

Within the provisions of the Lansdowne Road Agreement and the Oversight Steering Group the relevant management and union sides have been working to advance a number of productivity initiatives in the context of the Keeping Communities Safe (KCS) Programme.
KCS aims to achieve consistent, bench-marked fire services in Ireland, matched to the identified fire risk. It is recognised that a number of key measures related to the structures and processes designed to deliver the implementation of KCS have been progressed to date. Further related initiatives using agreed processes are underway aimed at achieving specific measures that will enhance the overall delivery of the fire-fighting service and fire safety by local authorities.
We are pleased to say that, having regard to the progress that has been made to date between the management and union sides and contingent on the achievement of specific measures, a new incremental salary scale will be developed for the entire full-time fire-fighter grade, which will address the current differences in pay for fire-fighters recruited since 2012. The implementation of the revised salary arrangement will be the subject of consultations between the management and union sides in the context of continuous progress being made through the reform process.
