The Employment and Youth Activation Charter, launched today in Dublin, gives businesses a central role to help solve long-term unemployment and youth activation. The Charter, a Government Initiative led by Department of Social Protection, does this by asking leading businesses in Ireland to commit to a series of measures that will prime those who are out of work to take up jobs.

Each signatory of the Charter must commit to a core guarantee that at least 50% of candidates to be considered for interview will be taken from the Live Register.

Other measures in the Charter include:

  • Facilitating tours of their business and giving an overview of what is required from future candidates
  • Offering job placement or internships through schemes such as Jobbridge
  • Participating in their local Department of Social Protection Job Clubs and working with local schools
  • Hosting training workshops for unemployed people for areas such as CV writing
  • Providing accredited pre-employment skills to help jo seekers become job ready

The Charter was proposed by the Labour Market Council, the body of industry and policy experts who help drive implementation of Pathways to Work, the Government's four year strategy to radically reduce the number of people on the Live Register.
