Minister Hayes hosts major OPW events in the Kennedy Homestead & the JFK Arboretum

Mr. Brian Hayes, TD, Minister of State with special responsibility for the Office of Public Works (OPW) today attended the official opening of the new Visitor Centre at the Kennedy Homestead in Dunganstown, New Ross, Co. Wexford. Minister Hayes also welcomed An Taoiseach, former Ambassador to Ireland, Jean Kennedy-Smith and Caroline Kennedy to the JFK Arboretum for a re-dedication ceremony and to view a major new permanent exhibition on the Kennedy Presidency. OPW, in collaboration with Patrick Grennan, a member of the Kennedy family, have developed significant new facilities at the homestead site, which includes a new exhibition centre to display the achievements of the extended Kennedy Family and a bust in honour of the memory of Senator Edward Kennedy. The new exhibition in the JFK Arboretum celebrates the Kennedy Presidency and contains some fascinating items that recall the era.

Speaking today, Minister Hayes said "I am delighted to be here in Dunganstown today and am honoured to be in such esteemed company to celebrate the anniversary of JFK’s visit in 1963. I would like to thank Patrick and Siobhán Grennan, Wexford Co. Council, The JFK/Dunbrody Trust and indeed my own staff in OPW for their sterling work in ensuring that generations to come can experience the many achievements of the Kennedy family. I have no doubt that the wider region will benefit from the many visitors who will come to visit these wonderful amenities. I would also like to recognise the State support and leadership for these initiatives, without which we would not be here today."
