Process for Recommendation prior to the Nomination of Persons by the Government to the Offices of President of the Circuit Court and President of the District Court
Arising from the expiry of the term of office of the current incumbents, the Government has established a process for recommendation prior to the nomination of persons to be appointed, as President of the Circuit Court and President of the District Court respectively, by the President of Ireland under the Constitution.
A non-statutory advisory Committee has been set up to invite and consider expressions of interest in
(a) the position of President of the Circuit Court, and
(b) the position of President of the District Court
and to make recommendations for consideration by the Government.
The Committee comprises:
- The Honourable Mr Justice Michael White of the High Court;
- Ms Jane Williams, Chair of the Top Level Appointments Committee;
- Mr Séamus Woulfe SC, Attorney General.
Expressions of interest are invited from eligible persons for appointment as -
- President of the Circuit Court
- President of the District Court
Expressions of interest should set out the person’s education, professional qualifications and experience relevant to the position of President of the Circuit Court or District Court as appropriate, accompanied by a statement (maximum 1000 words) setting out the reasons for the person’s interest in and suitability for the office, including his/her capacity to carry out a leadership role in the Judiciary, including in particular the management of the relevant Court and openness to reform.
