Launch of Action Plan for Education

The Government today launched the first Action Plan for Education, the Department of Education’s three year strategy statement led by Minister Richard Bruton.
The plan outlines 139 actions to be implemented from 2016 to 2019 with particular focus on disadvantage, skills, and continuous improvement within the education service. As part of the plan’s implementation, quarterly progress reports will be published along with an updated plan at the beginning of each year.
The aim of the Action Plan is to improve the learning experience and the success of learners; improve the progress of learners at risk of educational disadvantage or learners with special educational needs; help those delivering education services to continually improve; build stronger bridges between education and the wider community; and mprove national planning and support services.
Speaking at the launch of the plan, Taoiseach Enda Kenny said:
“It seeks to make Ireland the best education system in Europe. It is the way we ensure equality of opportunity, success, hope and break the cycle of disadvantage.”
Minister Bruton said:
“In this plan, our high ambitions are matched by specific actions to deliver on them, across all parts of the education service. Actions are aimed at improving outcomes for the learners who depend on the service, at breaking cycles of disadvantage, at supporting teachers and institutions to continually improve, at building better links between education and the broader community, and at improving our systems on which we depend to deliver all this.”
