Bruton congratulates students on Leaving Cert results

Education Minister Richard Bruton today congratulated the 58,466 Leaving Certificate students who received their Leaving Certificate exam results.

The Minister said:

Today is a very important watershed in the lives of so many young people as their time in school draws to an end and the next phase of their lives begin. As thousands of students receive their results today it is a time to celebrate the culmination of a hugely formative period in their lives, together with their family, friends and teachers who have helped them along the road.
As our economy comes out of a very difficult period, many new opportunities have opened up for young people, in the further education and training sector, including traineeships and apprenticeships, as well as in the third level sector.
This is an important milestone and can be a time of great celebration and indeed relief for students and their families as the results become available. I am happy to see that the results and trends are on a par with previous years.

Minister Bruton added:

“I want to say to students who feel that they may not have done as well as they had hoped that all is not lost. Take time to look at all the options that are open to you and can lead you to your chosen career path”.

This year, 58,466 students sat the Leaving Certificate, compared to 57,929 in 2015. The 15 subjects with the highest participation rates are unchanged from last year, and are topped by Maths, English and Irish. 28% of candidates sat the Higher Level Maths paper.
