Taoiseach announces 320 new jobs

Taoiseach Enda Kenny and Jobs Minister Richard Bruton were in City Hall on Wednesday to join IDA Ireland CEO Martin Shanahan in announcing 320 new jobs in Ireland. The jobs will be created by six North American high-growth companies, including Squarespace and Amazing.com.

Affidea Ireland announces 100 Jobs

The Taoiseach was in Affidea Ireland on Thursday to announce the creation of 100 jobs over the next 18 months. The jobs announcement is part of a €15M investment which will see Affidea expand its reach in Ireland.

Nash welcomes lowest unemployment figures in 6 years

Business & Employment Minister Ged Nash this week welcomed the continuing fall in the rate of unemployment, which is down to 9.3% in October, from 9.4% in September. There are now 24,900 more people at work than there was this time last year, with the monthly drop in the number of unemployed standing at 1,900.

Nash publishes Government commissioned report on Zero Hour Contracts 

Minister Nash also published a study on Tuesday into the prevalence of zero hour contracts in Ireland which was conducted by the University of Limerick. The study found that while zero hour contracts as defined within current Irish employment rights legislation are not extensively used in Ireland, there is evidence of so-called “if and when” contracts.

Fitzgerald welcomes new Anti-Crime and Burglary response by Gardai 

Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald joined Garda Commissioner Nóirín O'Sullivan on Monday to launch a new national anti-crime and anti-burglary operation. Among the measures under 'Operation Thor' will be extra high-visibility patrols in identified burglary hot-spot and the use of new high powered vehicles by the armed Regional Response Units.
