Statement by An Taoiseach on 45th Anniversary of Dublin/Monaghan Bombings

Today our thoughts are with the families of those killed and injured on that terrible day in 1974.  This atrocity killed 33 civilians, including a pregnant woman, and wounded almost 300, the highest number of casualties in any single day during the Troubles.

I want to express my condolences, and those of the Government, to the families whose loved ones were killed, and to those who were injured on 17 May 1974.

The Government will continue to pursue all possible avenues to get to the truth of what happened in an effort to bring some small measure of closure for the families of the people involved.

The Garda Investigation into the 1974 Bombing is still open, and any new evidence that appears will be investigated fully by An Garda Síochána.
