The Minister for Overseas Development Aid and the Diaspora, Colm Brophy, T.D., today announced the awarding of 198 Fellowships for candidates from Irish Aid partner countries to undertake post-graduate study in Ireland.

Announcing the awards, Minister Brophy said: “The Ireland Fellows programme gives people the chance to come to Ireland to gain qualifications that can be put into practical use back in their home country. Thousands of people from our partner countries have had the chance to develop new skills and achieve their full potential in their respective fields. The skills they learn in Irish third level institutions make a real difference to communities across a range of areas linked to the Sustainable Development Goals."“The personal and professional bonds and friendships that Fellows build in Ireland are an integral part of the Programme. Fellowship Alumni are an important part of the greater Irish family and help to build knowledge and understanding of Ireland around the world." “The Fellows who will come to Ireland later this year are an incredibly impressive group of people. They will be a great asset to their home countries and we are delighted to be able to host them in Ireland for the duration of their studies.” The 2022 Fellows will begin their studies in Ireland this coming September for the 2022/23 academic year. The application round for the 2023/24 academic year is due to launch on 4 July 2022. The awards, made under the Ireland Fellows Programme, allow high-potential professionals to undertake a Master’s-level qualification at a University or Institute of Technology in Ireland in programmes aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The aims of the Programme are to nurture future leaders, develop partner countries’ capacity to achieve the SDGs, and build positive relationships with Ireland.  The 2022 Fellows are from a diverse range of places, including 21 countries in Africa; the occupied Palestinian territory; Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia; and Small Island Developing States in the Caribbean, Pacific, Africa and Asia. The Ireland Fellows Programme promotes gender equality, equal opportunity, and welcomes diversity.  Programme implementation in Ireland is supported by the Irish Council for International Students (ICOS).
