Minister Byrne to meet Italian Undersecretary for European Affairs

The Minister of State for European Affairs, Thomas Byrne T.D., will meet with his Italian counterpart, Mr. Vincenzo Amendola, Undersecretary for European Affairs, during his visit to Dublin on 27 June.

Minister Byrne will exchange views on a range of European issues of common interest with Undersecretary Amendola, including EU relations with the UK, Ukraine and the rule of law in the EU.

Speaking ahead of the visit, Minister Byrne said:

“I am delighted to welcome my Italian colleague, Undersecretary Amendola, to Dublin today. Italy is an important economic and political partner for Ireland, both bilaterally and within the EU.  We enjoy an excellent bilateral relationship, based on rich historical and cultural ties.

“I look forward to our discussions on a number of EU issues, including the EU response to Russia’s illegal, unprovoked and unjustified war in Ukraine. We will also discuss EU-UK relations - an area where we greatly appreciate the consistent Italian solidarity and support for Ireland.”
