Minister Martin congratulates Colum McCann on being longlisted for the Booker Prize
The Minister for Media, Tourism, Arts, Culture, Sport and the Gaeltacht, Catherine Martin, T.D., has congratulated Irish writer, Colum McCann, on being longlisted for the Booker Prize today.
Minister Martin said:
Colum McCann is a truly extraordinary writer and I wish to congratulate him on being longlisted for the Booker Prize for his novel Apeirogon. Ireland can be justly proud of Colum McCann who has authored several critically acclaimed novels and collections of stories. He has been the recipient of many international honours to date and it is a further great achievement for him to be longlisted for this leading literary award. I wish him every success.
The Booker Prize is the leading literary award in the English speaking world, which has brought recognition, reward and readership to outstanding fiction for over 50 years. It is awarded annually to the best novel of the year written in English and published in the UK or Ireland.
Colum McCann is the author of six novels and three collections of stories. His most recent novel, TransAtlantic, was longlisted for the Man Booker Prize 2013, and his previous novel, Let the Great World Spin, won the National Book Award, the International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award and was a New York Times bestseller. He was born in Dublin and lives in New York.
