Ministers Martin and Calleary welcome announcement of upcoming cricket fixtures against England

The Minister for Media, Tourism, Arts, Culture, Sport and the Gaeltacht, Catherine Martin, TD, and the Minister with responsibility for Sport and the Gaeltacht, Dara Calleary,  today welcomed the announcement of the upcoming cricket fixtures against England.

Minister Martin said:

I am delighted to welcome the announcement by Cricket Ireland of the upcoming men’s One Day International cricket fixtures against England.  This is the first time that Ireland will play England in a three-match series and I am sure all Irish cricket fans will look forward to the matches with a huge sense of anticipation and excitement. The matches will be broadcast live to an audience of millions around the world, giving Irish cricket and Ireland excellent exposure to a global audience.

Minister Calleary added:

After the last few months without any major sports fixtures it is great to see the return of international sport. Today’s announcement by Cricket Ireland of a three-match men’s One Day International series against England in Southampton later this month is wonderful news for the game in Ireland. These are the first fixtures in the new World Cup qualification process and I am sure that the team is very much looking forward to competing against the current World Champions.
