New Ambassadors present Credentials

Their Excellencies, the Ambassadors of Malaysia, the Federal Republic of Germany, Spain, the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the People’s Republic of China, the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Republic of Cyprus and the Kingdom of Norway, presented their Letters of Credence to the President at Áras an Uachtaráin today.

At the ceremony this morning:

H.E. Mr. Dato’ Ramli Naam, Ambassador of Malaysia, was accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Datin Nor Azizah Nawi, and by Ms. Zurina Ahmad Tejuddin, First Secretary at the Embassy.

H.E. Mr. Eckhard Lübkemeier, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, was accompanied by Mr. Peter Zingraf, Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy.

H.E. Mr. Javier Garrigues, Ambassador of Spain, was accompanied by Mr. Ildefonso Castro, Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy.

H.E. Mr. Felix Yusufu Pwol, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, was accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Angela Hwonghei Pwol, and their sons Yusufu Jacob Felix and Daniel Danyi and by Mr. Georges Omokhag Oludare Alabi, Minister and Deputy Head of Mission.

Mr. Fergus O’Dowd, T.D., Minister of State at the Department of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources represented the Government.

The following were also present: Mr. Adrian O’Neill, Secretary-General to the President; Ms. Kathleen White, Chief of Protocol, Mr. Peter Gunning, Assistant Secretary, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Mr. Joe Brennan, Deputy Chief of Protocol, Ms. Marion O’Donnell and Mr. Nigel Hutson, Assistant Chiefs of Protocol, at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

The Ambassadors were escorted to and from Áras an Uachtaráin by an Escort of Honour consisting of a motorcycle detachment drawn from the 2nd Cavalry Squadron, Cathal Brugha Barracks, Dublin, under the command of Lieutenant Richard Piggott.

The Guard of Honour was provided at Áras an Uachtaráin by troops drawn from the 6th Infantry Battalion, Custume Barracks, Athlone, Co. Westmeath, under the command of Lieutenant Damien Kelleher. The Army No. 1 Band was conducted by Captain Fergal Carroll.

At the ceremony this afternoon:

H.E. Mr. Luo Linquan, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, was accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Qiao Li, and by Ms. Lan Heping, Counsellor and Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy.

H.E. Mr. Sherif Elkholi, Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt, was accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Fayda Elkholi, their daughters Rana and Noor, and by Mr. Ahmed Mostafa, Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy.

H.E. Mr. Michalis Stavrinos, Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus, was accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Marita Stavrinos, and their sons Christophoros, Alexandros and Filiphos.

H.E. Mr. Roald Næss, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway, was accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Venke Næss, and by Mr. Carl Christopher Gjerpen, First Secretary at the Embassy.

Mr. Shane McEntee, T.D., Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, represented the Government.
