Taoiseach opens new Primark store in Berlin

Taoiseach, Enda Kenny was in Berlin this morning to officially open Primark’s new store located in Alexanderplatz, a central district of Berlin. Today’s opening marks Primark’s second store in Berlin and its thirteenth nationwide, having entered the German market in May 2009 with its debut store in Bremen.

The opening of Primark in Alexanderplatz has had a substantial local economic impact with the creation of more than 800 new jobs, bringing the total number of people employed by Primark in Germany to over 6,100.

An Taoiseach said:

We are seeing a new wave of international expansion from Irish companies abroad and I am heartened to see Primark leading this charge. The international success of Primark represents the constant innovations in retail and commercial expansion initiated in Ireland. I am particularly happy to see that this Irish company is creating tens of thousands of jobs across Europe. I commend the drive and initiative shown by those at Primark as they bring this Irish brand on a global journey. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate those involved in the development of today’s opening, and indeed to wish Primark the very best of luck with this exciting venture.
