The Minister for Public Expenditure, NDP Delivery and Reform and President of the Eurogroup, Paschal Donohoe, T.D., is in Brussels today (Thursday).

He will meet with the Belgian Finance Minister, Vincent Van Peteghem, to discuss ongoing Eurogroup work and priorities for the upcoming months, including work on Banking Union and Capital Markets Union, the reform of the economic governance framework as well as preparations for the forthcoming Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union. 

He will then participate in the Brussels Economic Forum, the flagship annual economic event of the European Commission, which gathers high-level European and international policymakers, academics, civil society and business leaders to identify key challenges and debate policy priorities for the European economy. This year’s focus is on ways of building a new competitive model for Europe on the background of global tensions and scarce resources. In his capacity as President of the Eurogroup, Minister Donohoe has been invited to provide the closing address. 

Minister Donohoe said:

“I look forward to meeting with Minister Van Peteghem to discuss ongoing work as well as preparations for the upcoming Belgian Presidency of the Council of the EU. These are key moments to take stock of our priorities and ensure good coordination of our joint work. I am also very happy to participate in the Brussels Economic Forum and offer this year’s closing address on how to ensure stronger competitiveness in Europe – a topic which is central to the priorities I have led on within the Eurogroup. As we face many external challenges, we need to ensure that we build on the resilience of the European economy in delivering future growth and facilitating the green and digital transitions.”
