Minister Donohoe travels to Malta as Eurogroup President

The Minister for Finance and President of the Eurogroup Paschal Donohoe TD will today (Monday) travel to Malta to meet with his counterpart, Mr Clyde Caruana, Minister for Finance and Employment of Malta.

Their meeting will focus on the evolving geopolitical and economic situation and its impact on Malta, Ireland, and the euro area as a whole. They will also discuss Eurogroup priorities for the second half of the year. At the end of their meeting, both ministers will hold a joint press conference which will be live-streamed on the Facebook page of the Government of Malta.

This meeting also marks the nineteenth and final euro area country that Minister Donohoe has visited in his role as President of the Eurogroup.

Speaking ahead of the visit, Minister Donohoe said:

“I am very much looking forward to engaging with Minister Caruana on a range of economic matters. Now more than ever, close coordination of national and fiscal policies is essential across Europe. This visit also marks the completion of one of the key objectives I set for myself at the beginning of my mandate as Eurogroup President: to visit each of my fellow euro area colleagues in their home country.”
