Minister Foley welcomes the extension of Temporary Alleviation Measures at post-primary level for the 2022/2023 school year pending completion of the review of the School Transport Scheme
Minister for Education Norma Foley TD is pleased to announce, following today’s Government Decision, that Temporary Alleviation Measures at post-primary level will be continued for the 2022/2023 school year pending completion of the review of the School Transport Scheme. This will mean that transport arrangements will continue to be provided for a number of post-primary students who are attending their second nearest school, who have completed the application and ticket registration process on time and who live more than 4.8km from their nearest school.
Minister Foley said: “I am pleased to announce that this decision to extend these temporary measures will result in transport being provided for over 1,800 post-primary pupils in the 2022/2023 school year, who otherwise would not have been offered a ticket for a school transport service. This arrangement will remain in place for the coming school year, pending completion of the full review of the School Transport Scheme”.
This decision, in addition to the recent decision to remove school transport ticket charges for the coming school year, will go some way to ease the pressures on families as they prepare for the upcoming school year.
Families who have applied for school transport for the 2022/2023 school year are reminded that they must log in and request their ticket on the Bus Éireann family portal by the closing date of Friday 29 July 2022. Families are advised that the family portal will close for a short period following this closing date to allow for essential technical adjustments to the system.
The closing date for making a new application for school transport for the 2022/23 school year was 29 April 2022. A late application process is available and these late applications will be processed in the normal way. However, as these applications are late, a ticket is not guaranteed.
