President of Eurogroup, Paschal Donohoe, travels to Slovenia

The President of Eurogroup and Minister for Public Expenditure, National Development Plan Delivery, and Reform, Paschal Donohoe, will travel to Slovenia on 8th and 9th March 2023 to attend a conference on the “EU Economic governance framework reform – finding consensus to ensure sustainability and growth”.

This conference is organised by the Slovenian Ministry of Finance and the European Commission. The Minister will be offering a euro area perspective as part of a panel of EU policy makers. He will emphasise the importance of maintaining the Eurogroup consensus that has been vital in driving the euro area’s recovery from Covid, and using that consensus to meet the sustainability and growth challenges.

In Ljubljana, Minister Donohoe will also have meetings with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Slovenia, Robert Golob, and the Minister of Finance Klemen Boštjančič to discuss the economic situation in Slovenia and the euro area and the Eurogroup priorities for the next months.

Minister Donohoe stated:

“I welcome the initiative of the Slovenian government in organising a very timely discussion on the economic governance review. I look forward to meeting Minister Boštjančič to discuss the Eurogroup priorities for the coming months. Close coordination of our fiscal policies is very important and has proven essential for the resilience of the euro area in these challenging times.

I look forward to sharing my views on the importance of balancing the need for sustainable public finances with a strong focus on investment so as to support economic growth and the green transition.“
