The Department of Defence confirms the arrival of 2 Inshore Patrol Vessels (IPVs) in Cork today.

The Department of Defence can confirm the arrival of a transport ship carrying 2 Inshore Patrol Vessels (IPVs) onboard today. The IPVs are scheduled to arrive and berth in Ringaskiddy, Cork at 17:30 today (14th May). Other cargo and preparation work will be undertaken tomorrow (Monday 15th).

Effectively the IPVs will not be delivered to the Naval Service until Tuesday 16th May. The IPVs will be unloaded on Tuesday – once in the water, the each IPV will be towed by tug to the Naval Base, where they will be berthed.

There will be an official statement later this week accompanied by images of the IPVs unloading.

The vessels will initially operate from the Haulbowline Naval Base (following a programme of work, crew familiarisation, commissioning/naming ceremony etc. - the IPVs are expected to become operational early 2024).
