Minister Richmond signs Employment Regulation Order for Workers in the Security Industry

Friday 25th August 2023

Neale Richmond TD, Minister State for Business, Employment and Retail at the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment, has today signed an Employment Regulation Order for the Security Industry.

The Order for the new ERO will commence on 4th September 2023 and from that date workers in the sector will have a new minimum rate of pay of €12.90 per hour.

Announcing the new Employment Regulation Order, Minister Richmond stated:

“I am delighted to sign this Employment Regulation Order for the Security Industry which will commence on 4th September when approximately 16,000 workers will see their minimum rate of pay rise from €11.65 to €12.90 per hour.

My predecessor, Damien English TD, had signalled his intention to commence this order in August 2022, however a legal challenge prevented him from doing so.

As the legal situation has been resolved, I have now signed the Order.

The delay in commencing this order has been difficult for the thousands of workers impacted, and I would like to thank them for their patience over the past year.

I would also like to thank the members of the Joint Labour Committee for Security and the Labour Court for their important work in delivering this Order.

I remain strongly supportive of the state’s collective bargaining and wage setting mechanisms, and the important work of the Joint Labour Committees in setting Employment Regulation Orders.”
